Obama on it, especially anything having to do with the
2008 Presidential election, is hot.
C ollecting has always been a
popular hobby, particularly of items like coins, sports
memorabilia, comic books and the like.

Kennedy, Reagan, FDR and Lincoln have increased in value
over the years.
Many collectors items featuring these great
presidents have increased in value and bring in thousands
of dollars over the years. Barack Obama has the potential
to join this group.
Obama collectibles are just
beginning to take off. If his popularity holds and he does
a great job tackling the issues facing our country, the
profit potential of his collectibles might be unlimited.
This remains to be seen. But meanwhile his collectibles
are hot.
For those interested in
investing in Obama collectibles and owning a piece of
history, here are 10 things you should know if you’re
looking to investing in these items for fun and profit:
Tip #1: Find an Obama
collectible that you like and would enjoy displaying in
your home. Be careful: If an item is too popular, it
may "glut" the market. There will be too many
available to make your piece rise in value. That's why
it's important to collect what you really like.
Tip #2: Watch your budget.
When you search for Obama collectibles online compare
prices. Prices can vary widely for specific items like
posters, paintings, mugs, t-shirts, newspapers, bobble
head dolls and the like.
Tip
#3: Concentrate on items
from the 2008 election.
The most collectible items will those associated
with the 2008 Presidential election.
This was a first and when history was made.
Even if Obama gets
re-elected in 2012, those collectibles won’t likely have
the same value as collectibles of the 2008 election.
Tip #4: Find a reasonably
priced Obama piece and just BUY IT! This definitely
helps feed one's interest. People are often reluctant to
become involved in a purchase of new collectibles, but
this is the best way to build your interest and accelerate
the learning process for the next purchase and building a
larger collection of Obama items.
Tip #5: If you’re buying
Obama collector’s items to make a quick profit,
understand the risks involved.
There’s no guarantee that they will increase in
value. Obama
collectibles are the latest addition to the collectibles
market and represents a great ground floor opportunity for
the avid collector or for anyone who wants to own a piece
of history. And
if Obama does well in office and joins the likes of JFK,
FDR, Lincoln & Reagan, it’s likely that his
collectibles will increase in value.
However, this is not certain.
No one has a crystal ball.
Tip #6: Condition, condition,
condition. Buy your Obama collector’s items in the
best condition possible. You don’t want to buy items
that are broken, with pages torn or have been repaired.
If you Invest in the best conditioned Obama
collectibles you can find, if you ever decide to sell
them, there’s nothing to haggle over…except the price!
Tip #7: Many
Obama collectibles are available in enormous quantities
and that affects their value and their price.
For example, there may be over 300,000 to 500,000
Obama mugs and pins in circulation.
With that many items in the marketplace, you may
have to wait a long time before the price increases...if
ever.
Tip #8: If you find something
you haven’t heard of, and the description calls it
‘rare’, don’t assume that it actually is. Far
too many sellers just put ‘rare’ into all of their
descriptions of collector’s items - the chances are that
the item is common and has just been described wrongly. So
don’t buy unless you know what you’re buying.
Tip #9: Don’t be impatient!
There are hundreds of Obama collectors items listed
available every day on eBay.
Whatever you want, it’ll come around again, and
if you don’t get it there are plenty more things to buy.
Tip #10: No matter what Obama
collectible you buy, remember that you will want to take
good care of it.
Who knows, you or your children may end up
with something valuable for that you can either resell on
eBay for a big profit or might someday be featured on the
Antiques Roadshow.
